Who is Camp Tachlis for?
Boys finishing 6th, 7th or 8th grade this year (summer 2027).
How does applying work?
Fill out the application online (about 5 minutes) and pay the $500 deposit. Camp Tachlis reviews every application and gets back to you within 7 days. Once your son is accepted, you have two weeks to complete the registration forms, and everything you already entered is filled in for you.
What if he isn't accepted?
We refund the $500 deposit in full. Once he's accepted, the deposit counts toward tuition and is non-refundable.
Does he have to do every activity?
The day is full and scheduled, but boys have some flexibility. Within reason, if he would rather skip the daily ball game, for example, he can choose another activity that period. We want every boy to enjoy his summer his way.
What about phones and electronics?
Camp is electronics-free. Campers don't bring phones, tablets, smartwatches or game devices. Anything brought is held by staff and returned at pickup.
Who takes care of my son's health?
A nurse lives on site for the whole session, and you'll fill out a full health history and medication form after acceptance. Medications come in their original packaging and are kept locked.
Will I be able to talk to my child at camp?
Yes, on a per-need basis. In general, boys do best with less live contact with their parents. Occasionally a boy will need that short phone call, or special circumstances may come up. You can also check off on the registration form to schedule an Erev Shabbos call.
What's the food like?
Hearty family-style kosher meals three times a day, with a snack station that's always open.
Can he be with his friends?
You can list up to two friends on the application, and a top or bottom bunk preference. We do our best with every request but can't promise them.
Is the camp licensed?
Yes. Camp Tachlis is licensed by the State of Michigan, and every staff member goes through a background check.
